Kraemer Boulevard Median Renovations

As a result of mandatory water restrictions imposed by the Governor in 2014, Cities are barred from watering turf grass medians. In response, the City Council allocated $50,000 in available Landscape Maintenance District funds for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 to renovate these medians as well as the medians on Rose Drive between Alta Vista and Buena Vista Streets. The Public Works maintenance staff recently completed renovations of two landscaped medians along Kraemer Boulevard between Chapman Avenue and Alta Vista Street. The renovations entailed the removal of 3,681 square feet of turf grass as well as other associated shrubs and old plant materials which were replaced with low water usage plant materials and a drip irrigation system. Staff anticipates saving approximately 158,283 gallons of water as a result of these improvements each year.

The renovations on Rose Drive are expected to begin in December. In addition to these recently completed renovations, the medians on Kraemer Boulevard between Bastanchury Road and the north City limits were completed several months ago along with a median along Chapman Avenue in front of City Hall as well as the medians located in the Civic Center parking lot. For additional information about this project, please call the Public Works Department at (714) 993-8212.
