Welcome to the City of Placentia Municipal Election page. The following information is provided to guide voters and potential candidates through the election process.
The City’s General Municipal Election is held on the first Tuesday, following the first Monday, in November of each even-numbered year. The candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected. The City Clerk is the local elections official and coordinates with the County of Orange to conduct the municipal elections.
City Council consists of five (5) members elected from the City at large. The term of office for members of the City Council shall be four (4) years, or in the case of an appointment or election to an unexpired term of office, the term of office shall be equal to the unexpired term of office. No person shall serve more than three (3) consecutive terms of office as a member of the City Council, including any portion of an unexpired term of office to which such person has been appointed or elected. In addition to the members of the City Council, the other elected officers of the City shall be the City Clerk and the City Treasurer.
The regular election for the City Treasurer shall be held at the same time and in conjunction with the regular election for three (3) City Councilmembers. The regular election of the City Clerk shall be held in conjunction with the regular election of two (2) City Councilmembers. The City Clerk and the City Treasurer shall be elected for a term of four (4) years.
The City of Placentia’s General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016
for the following seats:
- Three (3) City Councilmembers; and
- One (1) City Treasurer
Each seat has a four year term expiring in December 2020.
The polls are open 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM
The Orange County Registrar of Voters tabulates all ballots in the Registrar of Voters Tally Center located at:

The public may view the counting procedure.
The Registrar of Voters posts unofficial results throughout the evening of the election beginning at approximately 8:15 PM continuing to update periodically until they have tallied all precinct ballots.
To be eligible to vote in an election, you must register at least 15 days prior to the election date.
