The Mandatory Skills Evaluation is November 4th at Oberle Gym located at Melrose Elementary School.

What is Placentia Youth Basketball?
PYB is a league that emphasizes the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and FUN! It is a co-ed league designed for students who enjoy basketball and friendly competition. No formal basketball experience is necessary to participate. Games are played on Saturdays and some Fridays at Oberle Gym or Tynes Gym. Coaching is provided by fully background checked volunteers or city staff.
Proof of grade is required at time of registration (school ID, report card). Birth certificate is also required at time of registration for new program participants.
In order for us to build balanced teams there is a mandatory skills evaluation at Oberle Gym on November 4
. The times are as follows:
10:00am "C" Division - 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades
11:00am "B" Division - 4th, 5th grades
12:00pm "A" Division - 6th, 7th, 8th grades
The $90 league fee includes 8 guaranteed indoor games, indoor practices, stats, standings, reversible jersey, and awards. Second child enrolled at reduced rate of $80. Head Coach's will receive and additional $10 discount. No extra league or uniform fees will be charged.
Parents can choose to purchase pictures for an additional fee.
Practice starts the week of November 14. Coaches will be calling parents to let them know when and where their child's practice will be. At the first practice game schedules and picture order forms will be handed out. Pictures will be ready in time to go into Christmas cards. All games will be at Oberle Gym at Melrose Elementary School unless otherwise indicated. The coaches' meeting
with be on November 7, at 7:00pm
at Placentia City Hall.
The week of November 9
coaches will be making phone calls to their teams telling them when and where practices will be.
will begin the week of November 13
The first game
and picture day
will be on December 2
at Oberle gym at Melrose Elementary School.
Reversible red and royal blue jerseys will be handed out before the pictures.
There will be no practices or games
between December 23
and January 7
. This mirrors the PYLUSD Winter Holiday break.

This league is open to all children 1st through 8th grade. Each division focuses on age appropriate skill building.
Division "C" 1st-3rd Grade
"C" division focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, basic technique, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Practice schedule is as follows:
Division "B" 4th-5th Grade
"B" division also focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork and sportsmanship. Children in this division will learn to polish their basketball skills, and will be introduced to basic plays and strategy. Practice schedule is as follows:
Division "A" 6th-7th Grade
"A" division reinforces all of the focuses and skills of "C" and "B" divisions. Youth in this division will also be introduced to the offensive and defensive strategies used by Jr High and High School teams. They will be ahead of the game if they want to compete for their Jr. High or High School team. Practice schedule is as follows:
