What is Placentia Youth Basketball?
PYB is a league that emphasizes the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, and FUN! It is a co-ed league designed for students who enjoy basketball and friendly competition. No formal basketball experience is necessary to participate. Games are played on Saturdays and some Fridays at Oberle Gym or Tynes Gym. Coaching is provided by fully background checked volunteers or city staff.
The $126 for divisions C through A (1st through 8th grade). $57 for division D Pre-K and Kindergarten. League Fees includes 8 guaranteed indoor games, indoor practices (no weekly practices for division D), reversible jersey, and awards. Head Coach's will receive one free registration. No extra league or uniform fees will be charged. Parents can choose to purchase pictures for an additional fee.
This league is open to all children Pre-K through 8th grade. Each division focuses on age appropriate skill building.
Division "D" Pre-K - Kindergarten
"D" division focuses on fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, and basic skills.
There are no weekday practices for this age division. Players in this division will meet on Saturday mornings and practice skills as a group. They will then be divided into temporary teams and will scrimmage. Parent participation in this division is highly encouraged during practice and scrimmages. for each scrimmage, two parents will need to volunteer as coaches.
Division "C" 1st-3rd Grade
"C" division focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, basic technique, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Division "B" 4th-5th Grade
"B" division also focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork and sportsmanship. Children in this division will learn to polish their basketball skills, and will be introduced to basic plays and strategy.
Division "A" 6th-8th Grade
"A" division reinforces all of the focuses and skills of "C" and "B" divisions. Youth in this division will also be introduced to the offensive and defensive strategies used by Jr High and High School teams. They will be ahead of the game if they want to compete for their Jr. High or High School team.
