Building and Safety

The Building and Safety Division is charged with overseeing private construction for the purpose of protecting the safety of Placentia's citizens. This is accomplished through implementation of building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy, as well as strict adherence to ADA regulations and guidelines for construction of residential, commercial, and industrial developments.

A new edition of the California Building Code will take effect on January 1, 2026. Any plans accepted into review on or after January 1, 2026, will be required to comply with the new 2025 California Building Code.

Inspection Schedule

The City has modified its inspection schedule in accordance with current staffing schedules. Inspections can be scheduled for the following days and time: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

For an inspection request, please call the Building Division at (714) 993-8124. When you call, please provide the following information: the project address, permit number, type of inspection, contact information, and gate code (if applicable).

Inspection requests left on a voicemail are not confirmed until you receive a call back from the Building Division. The city does not schedule same day inspections.

For a 2-hour time window of when your scheduled inspection will be, please call the Building Division at (714) 993-8124 after 8:30 AM on the day of your inspection.

Cancelations require a minimum 24 hours' notice prior to the scheduled inspection date. A re-inspection fee of $119 will be charged for same day cancelations, no shows, and not ready for inspection.

Counter Consultation

The Building Inspector Manager and Plan Examiner are happy to answer any questions at the counter. The hours to contact either the Building Inspection Manager or Building Plans Examiner are as follows:

Building Inspection Manager and Inspector are available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, and 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Building Plan Examiner is available on Monday and Wednesday from 8 AM to 12PM.
