New Local Responsibility Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) Map

An Executive Order was issued by Governor Newsom to the State Fire Marshal to update the Local Responsibility Areas (LRA) on the Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps. A legal duty is placed upon local agencies to adopt those maps within 120 days if the agency is responsible for fire protection in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ). 

On March 24, 2025, the CAL FIRE's Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) issued the 2025 recommended LRA FHSZ maps. The City of Placentia was added to the LRA maps. We are required to open them for public comment and review within 30 days of transmittal per Senate Bill 63.

Under Government Code Section 51179 (b)(3), a local agency is not authorized to decrease the level of the LRA FHSZ recommended by the OFSM. However, we are authorized to add locations or increase the level of the LRA FSHZ recommended by the OSFM.
